Emotional Self-Care

Emotional self-care has been significant in managing my mental health. Adding in practices that improve my emotional state has made me feel better overall and has made day-to-day things I need to do easier. Without these tools, I don’t think I could have managed my PMDD.

If you’re struggling with your mental health you may want to step up your self-care routine.

Beating yourself up, dragging up the past, and focusing on painful events in your life doesn’t help you heal or move forward but, you also need to be honest with yourself and see if there are things in your past that you’ve been avoiding or that you need to deal with.

Hiding your feelings is a surefire way to keep living out the same unhealthy patterns over and over again. Ask yourself if there is an event or experience that is always coming up in conversation or in your thoughts. This is the time to start dealing with those emotions.


Remember, We have also all made mistakes in our lives, and while it’s important to take responsibility for your actions and the way you treat the people in your life it doesn’t do anyone any good to make yourself miserable by constantly going over these mistakes. At a certain point, you have to work on forgiving yourself so you can move forward. Otherwise, you’re going to be continually bringing things up from the past and moving forward will become impossible.


It's important to remember to forgive others too, doing this is not about them, it's about you and you don't need anyone's apology or permission to move forward.

I've realised that waiting for someone to acknowledge their behaviour towards you hurts you, more than them. Not everyone is brought up the same, with the same values and morals. Holding onto hurt and pain from how someone else treats you is ultimately going to hurt you more. You have the power to forgive this person and move on no matter how difficult it is but it’s so worth it. I believe forgiving everyone that has hurt you is one of the best forms of emotional self-care you can do. So just breathe deep and watch the transformation begin :)
